Old Dog, New Tricks: Modern Technology Upgrades at the Royal Golf Club
The Royal Golf Club is situated in Lake Elmo, Minnesota on the beautiful landscape of the St. Croix River valley.

The club, redesigned in the last two years from a 27 hole course to a longer, more expansive 18 hole design, just opened for players in Summer of 2018 was designed by two of the greats: Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam.
Formerly Tartan Park and owned by Global Corporation 3M, the club recently changed ownership, and knew it was time to make some changes.
The original Tartan Park had long been in the hands of 3M, and was originally built in the 1960's. When the ownership change happened, the team was looking to bring a modern experience to the club.
"The main thing the new and old owners were looking for were to keep the golf course a golf course - not developing a bunch of new homes. Once that was agreed upon, the team began thinking about how to upgrade the clubhouse" says Facilities Director John Parsons.
One of the important aspects of the redesign was to modernize the bar area. Bringing in a full blown Audio Visual system, we were able to bring the vibe that John and the team had wanted.

Said Parsons: "We wanted it to have the functionality of a sports bar, but with a modern golf culture feel. The team did a great job if installation and setup to get us exactly what we were looking for."
By bringing in multiple 4K display panels and integrating them with the sound system and content services they were looking for, the club was able to create a lounge area that their clients would love.
The course had long been used as a place for get together's and conference meetings for 3M, and the management wanted it to remain that way.
Because of this, the management decided to upgrade the conference rooms in the lower level of the club to bring a modern business atmosphere to those locations.
Using large flat panel displays, a fully integrated video conferencing system, and Automated Lutron Shades to create privacy, the team at Advanced Light and Sound was able to deliver this requirement.

"This is a place that is still used quite often by 3M employees for important meetings. The new board room technology allows them to seamlessly continue working on our property" says Parsons. "We actually are really busy in the golf off season, as these conference rooms and the banquet/bar area get used all year round."
By maintaining the non-golf spaces on the property, the Royal Golf Club is able to keep busy during the off season, which is crucial in a hyper-seasonal climate like Minnesota.
The last piece of the remodel was to bring the building up to speed with modern technology that allows the facilities to be monitored and controlled remotely.
Using IP enabled security systems and monitoring devices, John is able to keep everything up and running from the palm of his hand.
"I'm the only facilities staff member, so I am on the clock 24/7/365. Having the capability to check in on the system and keeps things running smoothly remotely is great for me."
These types of systems are available for everything from lighting to security cameras, and are all managed through your phone with intuitive mobile apps.
By bringing in these technologies to the remodel, The Royal golf Club was able to accomplish it's vision bringing to life a modern club house and continue the great tradition that this course had in the area.
